Why Set a Timer for 2 Minutes?

Two minutes is the duration recommended by the American Dental Association for brushing your teeth — long enough to thoroughly clean all surfaces but short enough to be practical twice a day. It is also the standard brewing time for green tea (longer steeping makes it bitter), a common rest period between heavy weightlifting sets, and a useful interval for the "two-minute rule" from David Allen's Getting Things Done methodology: if a task takes less than two minutes, do it now.

Best Uses for a 2 Minutes Timer

  • Toothbrushing (ADA recommended duration)
  • Green tea and white tea steeping
  • Rest periods between heavy weightlifting sets
  • Hard-boiled egg timing (for soft-boiled)
  • Quick stretch breaks at your desk
  • The GTD "two-minute rule" for small tasks

How This Timer Works

Click Start and the countdown begins from 2 minutes to zero. A circular progress ring shrinks as time passes, giving you a visual sense of remaining time without needing to read the numbers. When the timer reaches zero, an audio alert plays to notify you.

You can pause and resume at any time, switch to fullscreen for a distraction-free view, or toggle the sound alert on and off. The keyboard shortcuts Space (start/pause) and R (reset) allow hands-free control.

Everything runs locally in your browser using your device's clock. No account, download, or internet connection is needed after the page loads. You can switch to other browser tabs and the timer will continue running in the background.
